FD180 is an 8-port E1/T1/BRI interface failover device. It provides better protection against unpredictable problems that may occur on the Asterisk PBX. It offers an effective way to back up the Asterisk PBX when an unwanted change is detected (often when Asterisk fails or the system is powered off). FD180 provides a reliable and flexible solution for the Asterisk PBX.

FD180 is controlled via a module loaded by Asterisk, res_failover.so. This module continuously sends the “running” signal to the redundant server while Asterisk is running. As soon as Asterisk stops or system power is cut, the module can no longer send the “running” signal to FD180, and it automatically switches to the redundant server.
